Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal

Intense pulsed light hair removal does not use a true laser; instead, it uses broad-spectrum light to target hair follicles. It is suitable for fair skin and medium to coarse dark hair, but does not work on gray, white, red, or blonde hair.

Common cutoff filters include 560nm, 590nm, and 640nm. You can adjust the output wavelength band of the intense pulsed light device by replacing different cutoff wavelength filters. By adjusting the energy density and pulse width, you can establish a set of parameters tailored to the customer’s skin and hair conditions.

Broad-spectrum light hair removal devices are less precise and less intense than lasers. The energy density of commercial IPL devices usually ranges from 10 to 30 J/cm², whereas commercial diode lasers start at over 40 J/cm² and can even exceed 100 J/cm². That gap in intensity means IPL devices require more treatment sessions to achieve the desired results.

Older-style IPL devices have unstable energy output and are prone to causing skin burns. Modern commercial IPL devices generally incorporate OPT or square wave technology.
