How Are Age Spot Removal Treatments Performed For People Of Different Age Groups?
Young adults aged 20–30: Their common pigmentation issues mainly include superficial spots, such as sunspots. These can be treated by using a 532/755 nm picosecond laser.
Middle-aged individuals (ages 40–50): At this stage, the skin may already show early-stage age spots and mixed-type pigmentation. If the spots are thick, a CO₂ fractional laser may be suitable, or if the spots are relatively flat, a picosecond laser can be used.
Seniors aged 60 and older: At this stage, age spots have become more stubborn, and the skin’s barrier function has weakened. You can use a 1064nm picosecond laser with lower energy output, and undergo multiple treatment sessions.
How Can Laser Devices Remove Age Spots and Pigment Spots at Different Depths?
Superficial age spots (epidermal layer): They can be removed by using short-wavelength picosecond lasers (532 nm/755 nm) or Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers. The treatment always requires 1–3 sessions. If age spots exhibit superficial hyperplasia or a rough surface texture, you may need to use a fractional CO₂ laser and remove them by the vaporization effect.
Deep pigmented spots (located in the dermis): Longer-wavelength lasers have greater penetration power. A 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is a suitable treatment option. Due to the stubborn nature of deep pigmented spots, this treatment typically requires 3–5 or more sessions to complete.
Which Skin Types Are Suitable For Laser Age Spot Removal Treatment?
Generally speaking, our age spot removal machine is suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI. However, to better ensure the treatment safety, you still need to adjust the treatment settings based on the specific skin tone when using the device.
For example, for people with lighter skin tones, you can slightly increase the laser energy to achieve more effective treatment. For those with darker skin tones, longer-wavelength Nd:YAG and picosecond lasers are safer options, as they reduce the risk of post-treatment inflammation.
What Should Patients Avoid After Laser Spot Removal?
After age spot removal treatment, it is normal for patients to experience scabbing or mild redness on their skin. If patients pick at the scabs themselves, it may lead to scarring and other complications. Be sure to advise them to avoid hot baths, saunas, or electric blankets for one to two days after the procedure. An increase in body temperature can also exacerbate inflammation.
Additionally, since the healing skin is in a fragile state, patients should use physical sunscreen and avoid direct UV exposure for 2–4 weeks to prevent worsening pigmentation.
